What is the LA28 app?
LA28 is an engaging app system that prepares users for everything that is needed to spectate the LA 2028 Olympics to enhance the entire experience for them. The app includes features such as top news, community, navigation, schedule, and ranking.
Countries fight for the chance to host the holy Olympics in their own country is to showcase to foreigners how great the country is. With my hometown, Los Angeles, being the host for 2028, I created an app system that will enhance the experience for everyone by providing the five main functions that are needed.
All features needed to specate the Olympics and navigate around Los Angeles.
Checking Schedules by Sports Categories
Following Up for the Next Game
Natalie found out that 3x3 basketball is tomorrow, she decides to purchase a ticket.
She can also check for 3x3 basketball in sports categories of schedules
From purchased tickets, Natalie can navigate to the venue’s parking lot. She enters the stadium by simply showing the ticket QR code.
From the home page, users can purchase tickets, and would be brought to the schedules page. They can pick the game they like and and choose their desired seats and add to shopping cart.
Users will be guided directly to the venue’s parking lot. Our app will remind them on the info of the parking lot and stadium before and after they reach there. After they park their car, our app will recognize the parking spot and will notify the users on which spot they parked.
Users can add their favorite countries/sports categories/athletes and receive notifications on their newest updates. By having them as favorites, a heart will be shown and they will pin to the top of the list in schedules and rankings.
Users could also search for a desired game by looking into the schedules by sports categories. Inside sports categories, they are able to choose the specific round and the specific game.
When each game is completed, the results and the next game that the team/athlete is playing against will be shown
After the game, Natalie can follow up for the details of the next game that team China is playing.
Natalie is also interested in checking the rankings for diving.
Natalie shares her favorite photo that she took during the 3x3 basketball game.
Natalie adds China, 3x3 basketball, Shuyu Yang, and Hongchan Quan into her favorites.
In the community, users can browse through all the photos that other people have posted. They can also share their own favorite moments and have other users engage with the photos.
There needs to be an easier ticket purchasing process
A more detailed navigation that contains info on parking and stadium
A ranking system is needed to allow users to access all rankings altogether
Sharing photos will engage users by viewing each other’s favorite moments
25 years old
Was born in China, but later immigrated to US
Very into watching sports, especially 3x3 Basketball
She is a fan of the 3x3 basketball player Shuyu Yang
Also enjoys watching Chinese diving team
Users would like a section to add their favorite countries/sports/athletes and receive notifications
I have found multiple problems related to the current Olympics system:
All the current apps only provide online streaming options and nothing related to watching in person.
Users are required to research and purchase from different websites, because each country has their own vender. Even the process of finding the vendor for North America took me more than an hour to reach to the website: Cosports
Checking for rankings is also not included in any of the apps related to Olympics. Users need to search online for each ranking they want to check.
The official LA28 website has released out that there are no new venues, so all the venues are pre-existing. As a local, I have experienced for many years how difficult parking and finding the right entrance for the venues will be.
The website is confusing on not clarifying what the “cateogries” and session code are.
Continue to refine the user interactions and the UX / UI Flow.
Refine on making the app being more inclusive, for users who are not attending and spectating (maybe have an option to turn off navigation system for them).
Add on to the navigation system not only include driving, but options such as metro, bicycle, and walking. These options will be targetted only towards spectaters and how to enter the stadium. For bicycle option, the navigation system can guide them to park their bicycles.
