LOVR – The VR Dating App
VR, UX Design, UI Design, Prototyping
Introducing LOVR, the VR dating app that has the safest and most respectful dating environment for users seeking romantic relationships or couples going through long distance relationship.
LOVR is a VR dating app that allows users to fully get to know each other before meeting offline. Users would be suggested 2 new users everyday and chat with them before they go on virtual dates in VR. After 3 virtual dates, the system will suggest the two users to meet in real life.
LOVR can also be used for couples that are experiencing long distance relationship. By going on dates in VR, users can still feel connected and experience various activities when they are across the globe.
Phone App and VR User Flow
Currently apps have no security, safety and trust.
Many look for romantic relationships, yet dating app does not provide in-depth connection for users
Many would like to slow down and get to connect.
A real ID must be uploaded by each user in able to use LOVR.
An actual photo needs to be uploaded to generate users’ avatar in LOVR.
After the avatar is generated, users will be guided to download LOVR on the VR forum.
Each day, LOVR will suggest 2 new users based on both users’ preferences. Suggested users are filtered and most compatible for each other.
I conducted interviews with 8 different people who have experience in online dating apps. They shared their thoughts and concerns towards online dating:
Statistics about reasons people use online dating apps:
Statistics about online dating negative encounters by age 18-29:
Matched users will be encouraged to schedule a time for a virtual date.
Once both users feel a connection to each other, they can match with each other by clicking the heart icon.
In VR, each user will go through a quiz that will determine their own background and their preferences. By clicking different options, a different animation will appear in VR.
All charaters/backgrounds were created using Sims 4
Too casual
Might get in danger
Many of the matches talk about inappropriate stuff
Very fast paced
Have encountered many scammers that want to scam money
Have hard time remembering all the matches
Contacted in a way that made them uncomfortable
Needed to block or report someone
In the first 5 weeks of this project, I researched into the field of VR, and even bought a VR headset to get an understanding of how the prototyping and experience work. Through researching various dating apps, I found out that they are all very fast-paced, and are not the best choice when it comes to finding a romantic relationship.
This project’s most challenging portion was working with VR prototyping. Before this, I have never touched upon prototyping and designing in VR. To portray the result that I wanted in a short time period, I chose to prototype in Figma to get my concept across. For dating scenes and avatar, I screenshot scenes from the game Sims 4.
